Contingent Work among People with Disabilities
A quantitative study using Current Population Survey Contingent Work Supplement (CWS) microdata from 2017, 2023, and 2025 to examine prevalence, trends, causes, and consequences of contingent work among people with disabilities. The study employs regression analyses to compare workers with and without disabilities on job type, pay, benefits, job search, and reliance on SSDI, SSI, and other social safety net programs, while considering disability type and demographic variables. It further evaluates the impact of state-level contingent worker protections implemented in New Jersey and Illinois in 2023.
The Role of Accommodations in Helping People with Disabilities Remain in Their Jobs
A longitudinal and cross-sectional study using nationally representative survey data from the 2017 and 2019 National Beneficiary Survey (NBS) and the 2022 and 2024 Health and Retirement Study (HRS) to examine the role of employer-provided accommodations in sustaining employment for older workers with disabilities and SSI/SSDI beneficiaries working above the SGA level. The study employs descriptive statistics and logistic regression analyses to assess accommodation use, unmet need, and types of accommodations, and evaluates their association with short- and long-term employment retention, while accounting for individual, job, and employer characteristics.
